Reforms in the healthcare sector are continuing, the Cyprus Presidency says

Reforms aimed at upgrading the General Healthcare System (GHS, Gesy), strengthening public hospitals, digitising healthcare services, and continuously upgrading the quality of healthcare are continuing with consistency the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus has said.

The Presidency commented in a post on Wednesday, in relation to the latest Eurostat data, according to which Cyprus recorded the lowest rate of unmet medical needs in the EU.

In a post on X, the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus notes that, according to the latest Eurostat data (2024), Cyprus has recorded the lowest rate of unmet medical needs in the entire European Union, “with only 0.2% of the population stating that they had an unmet need for a medical examination or treatment”. The EU average is 3.8%, it adds.

“This significant performance confirms that our country has a functional, effective and affordable health system”, which covers citizens’ needs, it said. “The significant strengthening of the healthcare sector and the provision of better-quality services to all citizens constitute a fundamental policy pillar and a top priority for our Government,” it adds.

It also said that reforms that aim to upgrade the General Healthcare System, strengthen public hospitals, digitise healthcare services, and continuously upgrade the quality of healthcare continue with consistency.

The low rate of 0.2% is not just a number, but a strong indicator of social well-being and clear proof that our policies in the health sector bring tangible results, it concludes.
