Cyprus' maritime corridor a "critical part" of humanitarian pipeline, Dujarric says

“The maritime humanitarian corridor of Cyprus is a critical part of the humanitarian pipeline,” the UN Secretary-General’s Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric has said.

Responding to a question from Cyprus News Agency on the matter on Wednesday, 20 August, he noted that “it resumed yesterday (Tuesday, 19 August)”.

“It is being led by the Republic of Cyprus, supported by our colleagues at the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS), as part of what was designed by Security Council Resolution 2720,” he added.

Dujarric pointed out that “the advantage of the Cypriot corridor is that Israeli customs clearance takes place in Cyprus, in Limassol, so we hope that it will speed up the release of items that arrived at the port of Ashdod and get them to Gaza as soon as possible.”
