Austrian Chancellor in Cyprus on 21 August to discuss bilateral ties and EU priorities

Austria's Chancellor Christian Stocker arrives in Cyprus on 21 August for an official two-day visit aimed at deepening bilateral relations and advancing the European agenda.

In a written statement on Wednesday, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis noted that President Nikos Christodoulides will meet with the Austrian Chancellor, who will be in Cyprus from 21 to 22 August.

The topics expected to be addressed include bilateral relations, issues pertaining to the European agenda, the priorities of Cyprus’ upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026, developments in the Cyprus issue, the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East, and other international developments.

"Special emphasis will be placed on further deepening bilateral cooperation in areas such as green and sustainable energy, competitiveness and innovation, vocational education and training, tourism, and culture", Letymbiotis said.

He added that the agenda "also includes migration, a top priority for Vienna, on which Cyprus and Austria are already cooperating closely at the European level", as well as efforts by Cyprus – with Austria’s active support – toward full integration into the Schengen area.

According to the schedule, Stocker will arrive in Cyprus on the afternoon of 21 August and later attend a private dinner hosted by President Christodoulides.

On Friday 22 August, in the morning, the President of the Republic will welcome Chancellor Stocker at the Presidential Palace. This will be followed by a private meeting between the two leaders and subsequently expanded talks between the Cypriot and Austrian delegations.

The two leaders will make statements to the media at the end of the talks.

President Christodoulides and Chancellor Stocker will then proceed to the Nicosia Municipal Hall, from where they will tour along the ceasefire line. The Chancellor will visit the House of Representatives for a meeting with the body’s President.

Later, the President of the Republic will host a working lunch for the Chancellor and members of the accompanying delegation, after which the delegation will depart from Cyprus.
