Top professional services experts among President's new Advisory Council

The Council of Ministers has selected and appointed of the following persons as members of the Advisory Council. All leaders in the fields, the Council also includes renowned members of Cyprus' professional services sector.

More specifically, the members of the Advisory Council are:

George Arestis, former Judge of the Supreme Court of Cyprus, who will act as President of the Advisory Council and its sub-committees.

Elena Mouzalas, Member of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts.

Orestis Nikitas, Member of the Council of the Cyprus Bar Association.

Pieris Markou, Member of the Council of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC)

George Dimosthenous, Member of the Cyprus Rectors' Conference.

Platonas Stylianou, Member of the Steering Committee of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK).

Maria Georgiou, Member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Human Resource Management Association.

Lenia Samuel, Retired Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance.

In addition, each Ministry will appoint a representative, depending on the Organisation and which Ministry this Organisation falls under.

The above is in continuation of a previous decision of the Council of Ministers on the establishment of the Advisory Council, which will initially prepare a list, after an open call for interest, for the 11 semi-governmental organisations in the first phase. After evaluating the Advisory Council's operation in this format, it may possibly be either differentiated or expanded.

One of the main axes of the governance programme of the President of the Republic, is that for the first time these appointments will be made through an open call for interest and through meritorious, transparent procedures

Asked if, after the establishment of the Advisory Council, the President of the Republic will proceed with the appointment of members of the Boards of the semi-governmental organisations before the end of the term of its existing members, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said that "it is something that is within the constitutional powers of the President of the Republic, the first meeting of the President with the Advisory Council will take place and the President of the Republic will evaluate his next moves, which will be announced."
