Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation & Digital Policy Nicodemos Damianou has discussed Cyprus’ path towards Schengen accession with Austria’s Federal Police Director Michael Takacs.
The 2 September meeting with Takacs, pictured above with Damianou, took place during his official visit to Cyprus.
In a LinkedIn post, the Deputy Minister described the meeting as, “a valuable opportunity to discuss Cyprus’ path towards Schengen accession, as well as the priorities of Cyprus’ upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026.”
Damianou went on to say, “I sincerely thank our Austrian partners for the constructive exchange and the commitment to closer collaboration.”
It is worth noting that Cyprus’ full accession to the Schengen area was also one of the issues discussed between President Nikos Christodoulides and Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker during Stocker’s recent official visit to Cyprus.
Christodoulides thanked Stocker for Austria’s support of Cyprus.
