Invest Cyprus presents island’s growing innovation and fintech potential in Japan

Invest Cyprus was in Japan last week, where it showcased Cyprus’ growing role as a Launchpad for innovation and fintech at a number of expos.

A delegation visited the WebX Fintech Expo in Osaka, the WebX Conference in Tokyo, and partook in the Invest Cyprus Executive Tech Roundtable in Tokyo.

At the Executive Tech Roundtable, Cyprus’ delegation highlighted the island’s unique value proposition: Lito Miranthi, Investment Promotion HQ Unit, Invest Cyprus, read out a welcome note, which was followed by a written statement from H.E. Yoshio Yamawaki, Ambassador of Japan to Cyprus and a presentation by Anja Arsalides, Senior Advisor at Invest Cyprus, entitled: “Cyprus: Your Tech Launchpad in Europe”

Chief Scientist Demetris Skourides rounded the event up with a presentation entitled: “Bridging Continents: Cyprus’ Rapidly Growing R&I Ecosystem”, which outlined how Cyprus is rapidly accelerating its digital and innovation agenda, with significant investment already channelled into reforms and new funding calls. He highlighted the landmark Cyprus–Japan MoC on science and technology as a foundation for joint work in AI, biotechnology, energy, and space — positioning Cyprus as a true bridge between Europe and Asia.

On its social media, Invest Cyprus said the discussions with Japan’s top tech executives reinforced a powerful takeaway: Cyprus isn’t just a hub, it’s a bridge.

“With a pro-business climate, a world-class IP regime, and a highly skilled talent pool, Cyprus is fast becoming the place where fintech and innovation take off,” it said. “The synergies between Cyprus and Japan open exciting opportunities in fintech, R&D, and beyond.”
