Cypriot MP Tornaritis elected Asian Parliamentary Assembly Executive Council Vice-President

Cypriot MP Nicos Tornaritis has been unanimously elected to the position of Vice-President of the Executive Council of the APA for 2026.

Tornaritis, head of the Cypriot delegation to the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), participated in the meeting of the Executive Council of the Assembly, which was being held ahead of the Plenary Session, with the aim of discussing and approving the agenda, as well as the texts of the resolutions adopted by the four Standing Committees of the Assembly, which will be submitted for approval by the Plenary.

According to a statement issued by the House of Representatives, at the beginning of the meeting, Tornaritis was unanimously elected to the position of Vice-President of the Executive Council of the APA for 2026, with the Secretary General of the Assembly making a particularly honourable reference to Tornaritis' long-standing, consistent and hs multifaceted contribution to the work and activities of the APA, highlighting his contribution to strengthening dialogue, cooperation, and parliamentary diplomacy, as well as his active role in promoting the principles and objectives of the organisation.

As stated, in his response, the Cypriot MP expressed his gratitude for his election and for the special mention made of him, emphasising that this reflects the long-standing presence and contribution of the House of Representatives and the Republic of Cyprus in general, for whose interests he has worked diligently during his twelve years of participation in the Assembly.

He further expressed his sincere emotion, as he said, the APA had been for him not only a political forum, but also a place of learning, cooperation, mutual respect, and the development of meaningful human relationships.

Finally, the press release says, he highlighted Cyprus's consistent and substantial contribution to the work of the Assembly, emphasising its role as a reliable bridge for dialogue and cooperation, as well as the importance of the relationships of trust that have been built between parliaments, states, and peoples within the framework of the organiSation's work, expressing his conviction that these ties will remain strong and his willingness to continue to be at the disposal of the Assembly, contributing in any way he can to its work.
