A popular TikTok channel on finance has dedicated a video to Cypriot property tycoon Christos Lazari, who had made his fortune in the London property market.
The video also includes photos of Lazari with the IN Business Award IMH presented him with during the 2012 ceremony. He was recognised in the category honouring Cypriots who had excelled abroad.
Lazari died at the age of 69 in July 2015.
Produced by thenumbersgame1, which has 3.1 million likes and over 134,700 followers, the video tells the story of Lazari emigrating to the UK from the Limassol-district village of Dora in 1962 at the age of 16 with just £20 in his pocket.
He went on to work as a dishwasher, waiter and factory hand in London before saving up enough to study fashion design.
This led to the creation of the successful Drendie Girl label of clothing, the profits from which Lazari in 1978 began to use to invest in real estate.
At the time of his death in 2015, Lazari Investments held 2.5 million square feet of prime London real estate, mostly office rentals, and Christos Lazari had accumulated a fortune of over £2 billion.
