Cypriot Public Prosecutor Dr Despina Kyprianou elected VP of the CCPE Bureau

Cypriot Public Prosecutor Dr Despina Kyprianou has been elected Vice-President of the Bureau of the Consultative Council of European Prosecutors (CCPE) of the Council of Europe.

According to a press release by the Law Office, this is an extremely important success for Cyprus, since it is the first time that a CCPE member from Cyprus has been elected to this position.

Raymond Briscoe from Ireland was elected President of the CCPE Bureau, while the two member positions are occupied by Onur Ustali (Turkey) and Jana Zezulova (Czech Republic).

The CCPE, it is added, acts as an advisory body to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and is composed of high-ranking officials of the prosecution services of the member states.

It was established in 2005 following decision of the Committee of Ministers, with the aim of consolidating the Rule of Law through the recognition and strengthening of the role of the prosecution authorities.
