Italian President's historic visit in pictures

Italy's President Sergio Mattarella has wrapped his official state visit - the first ever by an Italian President to Cyprus - following two days packed with events and meetings.

After arriving on the island on 26 February, he and Italy's First Lady Laura Mattarella were welcomed at the Presidential Palace by President Nikos Christodoulides and First Lady Philippa Karsera, who later hosted an official dinner in their honour.

On its Facebook page, the Italian Embassy in Nicosia said the Italian president’s first day on the island “was an intense and fruitful day in the bilateral relations between our two countries, as well as for the Italian community”.

"The Italian President and Mrs. Laura Mattarella met the Cypriot President, Mr. Nikos Christoulides, Mrs. Philippa Karsera and several higher Cypriot personalities. They also had the opportunity to participate to a meeting with representatives of the Italian community," the Embassy said.

On the second day of his visit, the Italian President visited the Headquarter of the UN Peacekeeping Force in the Cypriot buffer zone, then the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus. Further, he saw the Old Nicosia Airport and drove later to the Limassol Marina, according to the Italian Embassy.
