The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCCI) has welcomed the election of its Secretary General, Philokypros Roussounides, to the position of Vice President of the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry Eurochambres' Skills and Employment Committee.
This election constitutes an important recognition of the role of the CCCI and substantially strengthens Cyprus' contribution to the formulation of European policies in the areas of employment, skills development and vocational education and training, the body said in a relevant announcement.
It continued that, through his new role, Roussounides will actively contribute to promoting the positions of the business community on issues related to employment and skills, with particular emphasis on the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises.
At the same time, it will contribute to strengthening the interconnection between the labour market and education and training systems, which is a critical factor for the sustainable development of the economy.
In this context, particular emphasis is expected to be placed on cooperation between businesses, education providers and policymakers, with the aim of better matching human resource skills with market needs.
This development is part of the CCCI's broader efforts for more active participation in European decision-making centers and substantial representation of Cypriot businesses.
The CCCI, as the main institutional representative of the business community of Cyprus and a member of Eurochambres, plays an active role in shaping European policies that directly affect the country's businesses and economy.
The assumption of this position by Roussounides substantially strengthens the CCCI's ability to actively intervene in the shaping of European policies on key issues concerning the future of work and skills, the announcement concluded.
