Takis Angelides, the founder of Takis Angelides Furnihome (TAF) and one of the most important figures in the domestic furniture market, died on Saturday 2 May at the age of 87.
Takis Angelides was an iconic figure of Cypriot entrepreneurship, embodying the power of will and rebirth. After the Turkish invasion of 1974, having lost his first business in Morphou, he managed to start again from scratch, building an empire that was characterised by quality and international design.
The deceased was the man who "opened" the borders of the Cypriot home to Italy and the global market. Through his exclusive collaborations with giants such as Natuzzi and Calligaris, he managed to transform furnishing into a highly aesthetic experience.
Despite his immense success, he remained a man devoted to his family, whom he creatively integrated into the business, ensuring the continuity of his vision. His loss leaves a significant void in the Cypriot market, but his legacy lives on in the thousands of homes he helped furnish and in the standards of professionalism he set for the industry.
The Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB) and Cyprus Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCCI) both made particular reference to Angelides after learning of his death.
OEB, in a post on "X", states that "after a brilliant career in business, Takis Angelides, founder of Takis Angelides Furnihome, passed away."
The deceased, it adds, was a leading figure in the furniture industry of Cyprus for decades , contributing to the reconstruction of the country after the Turkish invasion.
"OEB expresses its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the late Takis Angelidis," the post concludes.
