President discusses Buenos Aires embassy with counterpart

The forthcoming opening of a Cypriot embassy in Buenos Aires and the 60th anniversary of Argentina’s participation in UNFICYP were the two main topics of President Nikos Christodoulides' meeting with Argentine President Alberto Fernández, during the second day of the EU - CELAC Summit in Brussels.

According to a presidency statement, the meeting was held in a positive atmosphere, and focused on finding ways to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries both at bilateral and multilateral level.

President Christodoulides referred to the upcoming opening of an Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Buenos Aires next September, in the context of strengthening the diplomatic relations between the two countries which date back to 1968.

Also, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of UNFICYP in 2024, the President expressed the deep gratitude of Cyprus for Argentina's long-standing and significant participation in the UN Peacekeeping Force.
