The leadership of the Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB) and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCCI) are expected to sit at the same table around the end of November with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, and the Cabinet, in a joint session during which the issues that concern Cypriot business and affect the country's development path will be discussed.
According to InBusinessNews sources, the session is expected to be attended by, if not the entire Cabinet, at least the majority of the body, which also demonstrates the breadth of issues expected to be discussed.
However, although the exact agenda of the meeting has not yet been determined, the focus is expected to be on the conditions required to further enhance growth, improving data for businesses and, more broadly, addressing problems that act as a deterrent to business activity.
Focus on growth and competitiveness
As we are further informed, the discussion is expected to revolve around development issues and everything that concerns businesses and is directly or indirectly linked to strengthening the country's development potential.
In this context, it is estimated that issues that employer organisations occasionally highlight as significant obstacles to business activity will be raised on the table.
These include high energy costs, labour costs and bureaucracy, as well as other issues that affect both the daily operation of businesses and, on a broader level, the growth and competitiveness of the Cypriot economy.
Search for solutions and specific actions
Particular emphasis is expected to be placed on the search for practical ways to address the problems plaguing Cypriot business.
Therefore, it is expected that the aim of the discussion will be to examine solutions and launch specific actions on the part of the state, which could contribute to the removal of obstacles and the creation of more favorable conditions for business activity.
The ultimate goal will be to facilitate businesses as much as possible, so that they can continue to invest and grow, while strengthening the competitiveness and prospects of the Cypriot economy.
The joint session, however, takes on particular importance, as it brings the executive branch and the country's two largest employers' organisations to the same table, with the aim of creating a more supportive environment for entrepreneurship and further strengthening the country's development path.
Announced during the meeting with the OEB
It is worth mentioning that the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, informed the Executive Committee of the intention to hold this meeting during their recent meeting at the Presidential Palace.
As the President of the Federation, George Pantelides, characteristically stated, "a meeting with the business world will be held in November, in the presence of the entire Council of Ministers, with the aim of exchanging views and identifying practical solutions for current economic issues."
"Our concern is the continued support of Cyprus' competitiveness. Economic indicators appear encouraging with a growth rate of approximately 3.5%," he added.
At the same time, in his statements, Pantelides emphasised that in all the points mentioned to the President, "there was a positive response from the President with joint efforts, joint initiatives to support the economy of our country, for the benefit of both businesses and citizens."
