Chinese Embassy awards 10 grants to CUT academics and students

Ten grants were awarded to academic staff members and students of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) during a special ceremony held at the University on 13 October 2026, in the presence of the new Ambassador of China to Cyprus, Yang Yundong.

CUT notes that the grants were presented under the Chinese Ambassador’s Fund, an initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation and mutual understanding between Cyprus and China, particularly in the fields of education, research, and culture.

In total, five members of CUT’s academic staff and five CUT students received grants, for their innovative initiatives and the development of research collaborations with universities in China, and for their efforts to learn the Chinese language and their participation in cultural activities promoting Chinese language and culture, respectively.

The Chinese Ambassador met with the University’s leadership to discuss opportunities for further strengthening cooperation between CUT and Chinese higher education institutions. He also visited the Confucius Institute at CUT, which operates through a partnership between the University and Hangzhou Dianzi University in China.

Discussions focused on opportunities to further support and develop the Institute, with particular emphasis on expanding educational programmes and cultural activities that promote Chinese language learning and a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.
