Hosting the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 is expected to bring multiple economic benefits to the Republic of Cyprus.
Cyprus is the smallest country in terms of area to ever host this top basketball event, strengthening its position in the sports tourism sector.
The importance of the event is twofold for Cyprus: both as a major sporting event and as a lever for economic and tourism development.
Hosting the FIBA EuroBasket represents a strategic opportunity to enhance our country's international image and create a sustainable legacy for future generations.
The investments implemented within the framework of the event, with the highlight being the upgrade of the Spyros Kyprianou Sports Center in Limassol, where all Group C matches will take place, will yield economic benefits that have been calculated at between thirteen and seventeen million euros in total economic impact.
Cyprus will welcome thousands of visitors, who, in addition to significantly boosting tourism and local business activity, will also promote our country to their compatriots.
Besides, there is also television and online coverage, since Cyprus will "enter" a number of approximately 300 million television viewers worldwide, ensuring Cyprus international coverage of invaluable value.
To the above, there is of course added the know-how that Cyprus and its society acquire, since hundreds of Cypriots, as staff and volunteers, gain crucial experiences that will prove useful for the future, in dozens of sectors of organizing major events.
Regarding the issue of sponsor support and television coverage, the Chairman of the EuroBasket 2025 Organising Committee, Mark Klerides, states: “The effort of the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Organising Committee is to offer an unforgettable tournament for Cypriot fans as well as for world-class athletes. This would be impossible without the support of a strong circle of corporate sponsors.
We are thrilled with the support of socially responsible corporate giants such as Allianz, EKO and Bank of Cyprus as event sponsors.
They have recognized the value that the sponsorship of the tournament will bring to them since the matches that will be held in Cyprus will have a global television audience from the USA to China. We also thank more.com which is a sponsor of the event.”
