Every possible effort is being made by the competent services for the immediate completion of the compensation process for those affected by the fires, with the aim of restoring the damages and enabling citizens to quickly return to their daily lives, Minister of the Interior Constantinos Ioannou has said.
In a 13 August post on X, he noted that, in total, the one-off financial support for covering basic needs was granted to 286 beneficiaries, with a total expenditure of approximately €2 million.
In his post, Ioannou stated that the first affected individuals were called on Tuesday, 12 August to sign a declaration of acceptance of the amount, so that they can receive the money in the coming days. Despite the complexity of the process, he noted, "every possible effort" is being made by the competent services of the Ministry of the Interior for its prompt completion, "with the aim of restoring the damages and enabling citizens to quickly return to their daily lives".
Furthermore, he said, the approval process for the payment of the one-off amount for basic needs to the affected citizens was completed last week. In total, he added, the one-off financial support was granted to 286 beneficiaries, with a total expenditure of approximately €2 million.
In a press release, meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior has noted that, in the context of the commitment for the immediate payment of financial support to those affected by the fire in the Limassol District for the restoration of damages, and following the cost assessment of damages by the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber, the process of evaluating the submitted data began on Tuesday. The process will continue in the coming days, with priority given to permanent residences and properties with partial destruction, while at the same time categorising cases of total destruction is underway, so as to ensure immediate financial assistance to these families as well, it added.
The evaluation of the first cases has already been completed, and the affected individuals have been contacted and invited to sign a declaration of acceptance of the amount, so that they may receive the restoration payment.
"The aim of the Ministry of the Interior is to complete the payment of financial assistance for the restoration of damages at a rapid pace, in cooperation with all involved bodies, so that citizens can return to their daily lives as soon as possible", the press release said.
