The possibility of power cuts due to marginal coverage of electricity demand as a result of high temperatures on Thursday has not been ruled out, the Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSO) has said in a press release.
“Based on meteorological forecasts, temperatures will reach 45°C. Due to technical problems and limitations, coverage of electricity demand between 6.30pm-10pm is expected to be stretched,” TSO says.
“Consequently, the possibility of consumer load cuts for safety reasons is not excluded. If deemed necessary, the cuts will not exceed thirty (30) minutes for each consumer group,” it notes.
“Intensive efforts are being made to restore the availability of Generation Units, which has not yet been possible,” it adds.
Finally, TSO once again appeals to consumers to save electricity during these hours. It also assures that the cuts are always made with the safe and reliable operation of the electrical system in mind, which is the absolute priority.
