Cyprus sees increased passenger flow at airports, Ministry pledges for highest level of safety

The Transport Ministry has pledged a smooth operation of flights at the highest level of aviation safety, despite all the challenges as a result of an increased flow because of the developments in the region.

According to a Ministry announcement, there are 500 additional flights daily, as Cyprus airports provide assistance to third countries for the evacuation of their citizens.

The Ministry issued a statement on 19 June explaining the situation and pointing out that during this week there was an increased number of flights and an increased passenger traffic, resulting from the large number of repatriation flights. This is taking place at a time when Cyprus' airports are in the summer period with increased seasonal traffic, the Ministry says.

The repatriation of foreign citizens is being carried out in perfect coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is added.

The Transport Ministry also said that stricter security measures are being imposed due to the need to ensure the protection of the passengers, under the given circumstances.

The Ministry also says that similar conditions are observed in Cyprus' FIR and the traffic control personnel are making efforts to provide the best possible service in a safe environment, which highlights the role of Cyprus in the wider region.

The ESTIA national plan is in place to allow for the safe evacuation of civilians, through Cyprus.
