Population in Cyprus projected to grow until 2060

Cyprus is expected to record population growth in the coming decades, followed by a gradual slowdown and decline towards the end of the century, according to data published by Eurostat.

More specifically, Cyprus’ population is estimated to have reached 982,966 in 2025, up from 966,365 in 2024, marking an increase compared to previous years. According to Eurostat projections, this upward trend is expected to continue steadily over the coming decades, with the population reaching 1,044,946 in 2030 and 1,077,349 in 2035.

Growth is projected to continue beyond 2040, when the population is expected to stand at 1,101,576, rising further to 1,119,385 in 2045. The peak is estimated to occur around 2060, when the population is expected to reach approximately 1,145,542.

From that point onward, a gradual slowdown in growth is expected, followed by a decline. Specifically, the population is projected to decrease to 1,143,830 in 2065, 1,136,317 in 2070, and 1,123,864 in 2075. This downward trend is expected to continue in the following decades, with the population reaching 1,043,335 by 2100.

At the level of the European Union, the total population was estimated at 451.8 million in 2025, having returned to a growth trajectory after the decline recorded in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This increase is expected to continue for a limited period, with the population peaking at 453.3 million in 2029.

However, a gradual and long-term decline is expected thereafter. More specifically, by 2100 the EU population is projected to decrease by 11.7%, or approximately 53 million people, reaching 398.8 million inhabitants.
