EESC unanimously approves proposal for a European Centre for Clinical Excellence

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in Brussels unanimously approved the proposal to establish a European Centre of Clinical Excellence, which the Ministry of Health described as a significant success for the Republic of Cyprus.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health says that the proposal, submitted by Health Minister Neophytos Charalambides as part of the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) and presented last February at the Informal Council of Health Ministers, was unanimously accepted by the Committee, which is an advisory body of the EU, gathering 108 votes in favour and none against.

This development confirms the strategic importance of the initiative and the broad recognition of its value at the European level, it is noted.

It is added that the proposed Centre is expected to strengthen confidence in clinical assessments, support coherent and high-quality decisions, and strengthen the EU’s role in international pharmaceutical policy, while laying the foundations for a more coherent and patient-centred European healthcare system.

“The initiative highlights the active and substantive role Cyprus can play in shaping European health policies. The Ministry of Health emphasises that this unanimous approval constitutes a significant victory for the Republic of Cyprus and reflects the systematic and targeted effort to highlight critical public health issues at the European level,” the statement concludes.
