European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, Glenn Micallef, is in Paphos to take part in the EU Sport Forum 2026, which is being held on Wednesday and Thursday, 15–16 April.
The European Commission’s annual forum is a flagship event for shaping sports policy at the European level, bringing together representatives from institutions, governments, sports federations, athletes, coaches and organisations.
During the proceedings, Commissioner Micallef is expected to highlight the EU’s key priorities for sport, placing emphasis on strengthening the European Sport Model, promoting equality, and fostering solidarity and competitive balance. Particular attention will also be given to the mental health of athletes, an issue of growing concern for the international community, as well as to encouraging physical activity across all age groups.
The forum will also explore the prospects for developing sport in the Mediterranean region, while a high-level discussion will focus on integrity and investment in European basketball, aiming at its long-term sustainability. Micallef will play an active role throughout the event, delivering a keynote speech on the second day and taking part in official engagements, including the signing ceremony for the European Week of Sport partnership.
Notably, according to the European Commission, this will be the first time the EU Sport Forum is fully livestreamed, allowing for broader participation and wider access to discussions on the future of sport in Europe.
