Justice and Public Order Minister Costas Fitiris has met with representatives of the US Embassy with whom he discussed bilateral cooperation on security issues and combating organised crime.
A press release circulated by the Ministry says that the focus of the 8 April meeting was the establishment of the new specialised Directorate for Combating Organized Crime with the aim of strengthening the capabilities of the Police to this end.
The Embassy representatives expressed their support by providing expertise, training and utilising international collaborations and networks.
Issues related to firefighting and ways to deal with fires were also discussed and the US Embassy officials said expressed readiness to contribute with expertise.
