In the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, Cyprus is hosting an informal meeting of EU Tourism Ministers (Competitiveness Council configuration) which will provide the opportunity for an open exchange on issues impacting the EU tourism sector, fostering collaboration and alignment on future actions.
According to a press release issued by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and the Secretariat of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Kostas Koumis, will preside over the Friday, 17 April meeting and discussions will be structured around two sessions.
Session I will focus on the forthcoming European Sustainable Tourism Strategy, an important step toward strengthening the resilience and competitiveness of the tourism sector while promoting responsible and sustainable growth. Session II will address how to strengthen Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) — the backbone of European tourism — exploring pathways for building resilience, digitalisation, and the green transition, with the partial participation of Ukraine’s State Agency for Tourism Development and the Secretary-General of UN Tourism.
Deputy Minister Koumis and EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas are also expected to give a press conference at 1pm.
