EU FMs to discuss situation in Middle East via teleconference

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has convened a video conference of EU Foreign Ministers to discuss the situation in the Middle East.

"In view of the seriousness of the situation in the Middle East, the EU High Representative, Kaja Kallas, has convened a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers via video conference on Tuesday (17 June)," her spokesperson said.

The discussion will provide an opportunity for an exchange of views, coordination in relation to diplomatic communication with Tel Aviv and Tehran, and possible next steps.

Cyprus' Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos said on 16 June that Nicosia has been requesting a meeting since last Saturday, 14 June.

It is extremely important that the European Union be active in what is happening, he noted.

Kombos met with his German counterpart in Larnaca on 16 June.
