Energy Minister has meetings on energy and investments in Abu Dhabi

Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry, George Papanastasiou, has held meetings with senior officials of Abu Dhabi’s National Energy Company (TAQA) to discuss the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI) electricity project.

Additionally, he met with investors interested in electricity projects in Cyprus.

The meetings took place on 26 February on the sidelines of an international investment conference in Abu Dhabi. On Thursday, Minister Papanastasiou is scheduled for a private meeting with the UAE’s Minister of Economy, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Energy, during the conference, Papanastasiou engaged in discussions with TAQA officials regarding the GSI electricity interconnection project between Cyprus and Greece. He also met with representatives of companies and investment funds specifically interested in renewable energy projects and electricity storage in Cyprus.

On 27 February, Papanastasiou will also participate in a roundtable discussion titled 'Europe’s Niche Economies: Unlocking Growth in Small but Strategic Markets.' During this session, he will highlight Cyprus’ advantages as an international business hub and investment destination.

The Minister is expected to return to Cyprus on the evening on 27 February.
