Kombos and Qatari PM discuss bilateral relations, situation in Lebanon, Gaza

Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, who is in Doha for contacts, has discussed enhancing bilateral relations, especially in the fields of investment and trade but also the situation in Lebanon and Gaza, with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

In a post on “X”, Kombos said that it was a “pleasure” to meet Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on 3 November.

He said that they had a “substantial and forward-looking discussion on enhancing Cyprus-Qatar bilateral relations, especially in the fields of investment and trade”. The discussion also focused on issues of key regional and international concern and in particular the situation in Lebanon and in Gaza, he added.

“Mediating efforts for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages and regional de-escalation in which Qatar is engaged, are critical”, he noted.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said in an announcement that Al Thani and Kombos discussed cooperation relations and ways to support and enhance them, especially in the fields of investment and trade, in addition to several topics of mutual interest.

Kombos also met with Qatar’s Minister for International Cooperation, Lolwah bint Rashid al Khater.

In another post, he said that the discussion focused on aspects of bilateral co-operation and current regional developments with particular reference to Ukraine, Gaza and Lebanon.

According to a statement by Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, the two Ministers discussed cooperation, especially in the humanitarian and development fields, but also the latest developments in Gaza and Lebanon, and “ways to de-escalate, in addition to several topics of common concern”.
