A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed today by the Minister of Defence, Vasilis Palmas, and the President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Stavros Stavrou, with the aim of further strengthening cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and Cyprus’ business community on Civil Emergency Planning, resilience and support for national security. The Memorandum sets out the framework for cooperation between the Central Service for Civil Emergency Planning (KYPSA) and CCCI across a number of important areas of mutual interest.
Among other things, it provides for the strengthening of Civil Emergency Planning, the designation of businesses of critical importance for the defence and security of the country, the training and upskilling of personnel and CCCI members in crisis management, and the promotion of joint actions, studies and research that contribute to enhancing the resilience of businesses and of the Republic of Cyprus as a whole.
CCCI, as the institutional representative of the Cypriot business community and a long-standing partner of the State on matters of economy, development and national resilience, is actively participating in Civil Emergency Planning, contributing to the linkage of the public and private sectors for the benefit of the country.
The signing of the Memorandum marks another step in the already excellent and continuously developing cooperation between CCCI and the Ministry of Defence, which in recent years has been significantly strengthened through joint initiatives to bolster national resilience, support Cypriot businesses and leverage the capabilities of domestic industry and innovation for the benefit of the defence and security of the Republic of Cyprus.
