Minister of Foreign Affairs, Constantinos Kombos, reaffirmed Cyprus’ support for continued engagement between the European Union and Central Asia. He made the remark on "X" following a meeting in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, with his counterpart, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, as part of his Central Asia tour.
In his post on Friday, Kombos said it is the first official visit to the country by a Cyprus Foreign Affairs Minister.
He added the two had a productive meeting “where we discussed ways to strengthen Cyprus-Tajikistan ties and expand practical cooperation in fields such as trade, investment, and education”.
Within this framework, he noted, they exchanged a counterpart a Memorandum of Cooperation in the Field of Higher Education and Research. Regional security issues also featured prominently in the discussions, he added.
“As an EU Member State, as well as the current rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU, I reaffirmed Cyprus' support for continued engagement between the European Union and Central Asia,” said the Cypriot FM.
The FM also met with the Speaker of the Lower House of the Parliament of Tajikistan, Faizali Idizoda.
In a post on "X", describing the meeting as “cordial”, the Minister said “discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties and expanding parliamentary cooperation between Cyprus and Tajikistan”.
