Cyprus remains a safe destination and tourism activity continues normally and without interruption, Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis has said.
In his statements after the TUI Cyprus Marathon in Kato Paphos, Koumis referred to the marathon, saying that more than 2,500 people arrived these days from abroad, noting that this in itself "is a very important message that tourism activity in our country continues without interruption."
Cyprus, Koumis pointed out, "was, is and will always be a safe destination."
Referring to the course of the tourism season, the Deputy Minister of Tourism noted that it is still too early to draw safe conclusions. “It is too early to make any safe estimates regarding the course” of tourism, he said.
He went on to say that we are only on the seventh day of a new conflict, in which Cyprus is not a party. Cyprus, he added, “has never been part of this equation. Our role is very different and very supportive in order for peace to prevail.”
At the same time, Koumis admitted that in recent days some impact on tourism has been observed, with developments affecting arrivals, while bringing about some cancellations, along with a slowdown in bookings.
