Hybrids take the lead

Hybrid vehicles are consolidating their dominance. Their market share among passenger saloon cars rose to 51.9% in January–July 2026, up from 43.3% in the same period of 2025.

The share of fully electric saloons edged up slightly to 4.8% from 4.65%, while petrol-powered saloons saw their share fall to 35.5% from 43.3%. Diesel’s share also declined, to 8% from 8.5%.

This shift underlines a clear buyer preference for electrified powertrains, with hybrids now accounting for more than half of all saloon car registrations, even as fully electric uptake remains modest.
