Wizz Air launches Pilot Academy in Cyprus

Wizz Air has announced the official launch of the Wizz Air Pilot Academy (WAPA) in Cyprus. For the first time, aspiring pilots in Cyprus can access world-class training with a unique financial model designed to make the flight deck accessible to all.

As noted in the airline's announcement, through the WAPA program, Cypriot candidates can train to become First Officers in approximately two years, benefiting from world-class, airline-integrated training and a unique, affordable payment scheme. Graduates who complete the program are offered employment with Wizz Air.

To mark the launch, Wizz Air will host an Open Day on Sunday, 25 January from 4-8pm at Sunhall Hotel (6 Athens Avenue, Larnaca), where interested candidates and their families can meet Wizz Air representatives and learn more about the application process.

The Wizz Air Pilot Academy was established in 2017 and has trained more than 185 pilots, with over 90 currently enrolled. Training takes place at Wizz Air’s contracted flight school, Trener Kft, in Nyíregyháza, Hungary, followed by advanced and airline training at one of Wizz Air’s bases, with continuous airline oversight throughout.

The WAPA program is open to candidates aged 18 and above who hold a high school diploma, have good English knowledge, and demonstrate a strong aptitude in maths and physics. Applications are accepted year-round through Wizz Air’s career site. The program is supported by a unique and affordable payment model: a low initial contribution, with the remaining cost deducted from salary over five years once participants begin working for Wizz Air.

“Cyprus has strong talent and ambition, and with the launch of the Wizz Air Pilot Academy, we are giving that talent a concrete opportunity to build an aviation career,” said Olivia Harangozo, Corporate Communication Manager. “By making the program available locally, we are opening a direct, airline-led pathway from first application to the cockpit, supported by high-quality training and a clear perspective of employment with Wizz Air. This initiative reflects our long-term commitment to developing local talent and building a sustainable pipeline of future pilots in the region.”

With this launch, Wizz Air aims to nurture the next generation of pilots from Cyprus, creating new career pathways and supporting local talent in entering one of the world’s most exciting professions.

Wizz Air will host additional open days for applicants in the near future, ensuring that anyone who cannot attend this announced date will still have the opportunity to participate, the announcement also pointed out.
