The President of the Republic, Nicos Christodoulides, received on Thursday the reports of the Special Scientific Committee on the restructuring of the livestock sector by the Committee’s Chair, Stavros Malas.
The meeting, which took place on Thursday morning at the Presidential Palace, was also attended by the Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos, the Minister of the Interior, Constantinos Ioannou, the Deputy Minister to the President, Irini Piki, and the Minister for Agriculture, Christos Senekis.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis referred to “very thorough work by the Special Scientific Committee on the restructuring of the livestock sector”, adding that, on the instructions of the President, “the relevant bodies will be briefed in the very near future – and may indeed have already begun to be briefed.”
He also said that “these findings will be presented to all relevant stakeholders, so that a constructive exchange of views can take place, leading to the finalisation of the plan, enabling us to move on to the next stage, which is now the adoption and implementation of these findings.”
Furthermore, in a social media post, Malas said that the Committee aims to ensure full transparency and a meaningful dialogue regarding the proposals for the recovery, modernisation and long-term restructuring of the Cypriot livestock sector.
He emphasised that “none of the members or participants in the Committee’s work received any additional remuneration or other financial benefit for their participation and contribution’ and that the work was carried out ‘with a sense of scientific and ethical responsibility and a commitment to our country, and with the sole aim of formulating an evidence-based, practicable and long-term proposal for the future of Cypriot livestock farming”.
