Temperature expected to reach 43 degrees on Wednesday as heatwave hits Cyprus
08:03 - 23 July 2025

The maximum temperature is expected to rise to around 43 degrees Celsius over inland areas on Wednesday, 23 July.
The Department of Meteorology has issued an orange extreme maximum temperature warning, which will be valid from noon until 5pm.
According to the warning, the maximum temperature is expected to rise to around 43 degrees Celsius over the inland areas and to around 34 degrees Celsius over the higher mountainous areas.
Cyprus has been affected by an extensive heat wave since Monday, 21 July, something which is expected to peak between 24-27 of July. Temperature is expected to rise between 42-44 degrees Celsius and the highest temperature in the mountainous areas will be around 32-35 degrees, the Meteorology Department says.
The highest temperatures (between 42 - 44 degrees) will be recorded from Thursday, 24 July, until Sunday 27 July, in inland areas.
During the same period in the higher mountainous areas, the highest temperatures will range between 32 - 35 degrees, peaking on Thursday, 24 July. During this period, minimum temperatures are also expected to be significantly higher than normal.
According to the Meteorology Department, this phenomenon is due to the intense movement of warm air masses originating in North Africa to the central and eastern Mediterranean, combined with anticyclone that prevents weather changes. The presence of high humidity, combined with extremely high temperatures, increases the risk of heat stress for the population.
The Department notes that there will be continuous monitoring of the phenomenon, with constant updates and corresponding warnings for extremely high temperatures.
