Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation announces European Archeology Days

The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation is participating in European Archeology Days, taking place on 13, 14 and 15 June, with a series of activities/workshops for families, aiming to familiarise them with the cultural heritage and history of the island.

The programme includes the following:

Friday 13 June 6-8pm

Ceramics workshop for families 'Making stories with clay'

Facilitator: Souzana Petri- ceramist

A workshop based on the History of Ceramics in Cyprus, starting from the creation of clay and the different stages of its preparation, the creation of natural colours using raw materials and continuing to the production and decoration stage. Using their senses, they will cultivate their creativity by expanding their imagination about the material culture and archaeology of Cyprus using exhibits that are available in the museum.

Participants will learn about the production process, dyeing techniques and properties of clay and will learn together about the natural resources used as raw materials in its production.

Saturday 14 June 11am-1pm

Educational program for families: 'Let me introduce myself: archaeologist'

Facilitator: Aimili Christofi – Archaeologist

The purpose of this workshop is to introduce the science of archaeology. The children and their families will have the opportunity to get in touch with the archaeological science, which through the

study of archaeology will be the focus of the workshop.

They will learn about the basic principles of archaeology as a science, as well as the basic tasks of the archaeologist when searching.

Sunday 15 June 11am-1pm

Theatrical workshop for families at the Coinage Museum

'Myths and stories of our Cyprus’

Facilitators: Despina Chrysanthou, actress-psychologist/Andrea Oratiou-Archaeologist

An experiential theatrical tour of Cypriot myths. Discover hidden and unknown myths of Cyprus through the theatrical exploration game at the Cultural Foundation's Coinage Museum.

Suitable for children aged 7+
