Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Eng. Karim Badawi, affirmed the strategic importance of his country’s bilateral relations with Cyprus, during a meeting with Cyprus’ Ambassador to Egypt Polly Ioannou.
“The Minister praised the progress achieved in energy sector cooperation, highlighting that the joint project to connect Cypriot gas fields to Egyptian gas facilities is a top priority for both countries, pointing out that this project represents the most reliable guarantee for delivering additional gas supplies to European markets with higher efficiency,” the Egyptian Ministry said on its official social media pages.
The Ambassador, it added, “appreciated Egypt’s pivotal role in the region, valuing the constructive and fruitful cooperation in the energy domain”.
She also praised Egypt’s recent successes in the mining sector and its ability to attract global investments, which opens new prospects for joint economic cooperation. “The Ambassador added that several Cypriot companies are interested in investing in the mining sector as well as in ship bunkering services,” the ministry’s post, titled “Egypt and Cyprus Move Forward in Enhancing Strategic Energy Cooperation”, concluded.
