Six new digital services added to Gov.cy – IDs and Passports go online

The second phase of digitising services of the Ministry of Interior's Civil Registry and Migration Department has been completed with the addition of six new digital services.

With the new digital services, developed by the specialised Digital Services Factory team of the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy and now offered online through the Gov.cy Portal (under Citizens and day-to-day life Citizens’ documents and data), citizens can now apply for:

  • A passport
  • An ID card
  • Displaced family ID card (refugee ID card)
  • Birth certificate
  • Death certificate
  • Certificate of permanent residence
  • Certificate of origin

With the exception of ID and passport issuance/renewal, which require an in-person visit for biometric data collection after online application submission, all other services are fully handled online.

It is worth noting that the first phase of services, implemented in June 2024, included:

  • re-issuance of birth and death certificates,
  • consular certificates of birth and death,
  • submission of applications for adult ID and passport issuance or renewal,
  • issuance of permanent residence certificates, and
  • issuance of student origin confirmation certificates.

With the gradual digitalisation of Civil Registry services, Cypriot citizens both in Cyprus and abroad can now be served quickly, easily, and without unnecessary bureaucracy or delays. The ultimate goal is to reduce red tape and minimise service times, creating a modern, citizen-friendly State that meaningfully and effectively facilitates people’s everyday lives.
