Eleven new ATMs set up in remote and mountainous areas of Cyprus

A total of 11 new ATMs in various areas of Cyprus were installed and put into operation in recent months, as part of the implementation of the banks' commitment to better serve the public in remote and mountainous areas.

According to relevant briefing from the Association of Cyprus Banks to the House Commerce Committee, at the beginning of the year the two major banks ( Bank of Cyprus and Hellenic Bank) agreed to install new ATMs throughout Cyprus.

The aim was to achieve greater geographical coverage to serve more people in remote and mountainous areas, the Association said.

The implementation of this decision by the banks subsequently took shape through specific time milestones as follows:

Time milestones

  • January 2025: Announcement for the installation of approximately 10 new ATMs in Cyprus.
  • March 2025: Initial planning and coordination with competent services, local authorities and banks.
  • April 2025: Determination of points throughout Cyprus, on-site visits and designs and ordering of new ATMs.
  • May 2025: Installation, technical inspection and operation of most new ATMs.

The 11 communities where the new ATMs have been installed are Argaka, Salamiou, Pissouri, Astromeritis, Pelendri, Eptagonia, Parekklisia, Lythrodontas, Xylotymbou, Avgorou and Frenaros.

It is noted that in addition to ATM services, there are over 400 cashback points operating nationwide. At these retail businesses including supermarkets, bakeries, kiosks, petrol stations, etc., customers have the oppurtunity to request cash of up to €100 per transaction.
