OSM Maritime Group's Julia Anastasiou recognised with 'Gender Equality Award in Cyprus Shipping'

Julia Anastasiou, Senior Crew Manager, OSM Maritime Group, has been recognised with the 'Gender Equality Award in Cyprus Shipping.'

According to an announcement from the Deputy Ministry of Shipping, the award, recognising Anastasiou for her career in shipping so far and her substantial contribution to the promotion of equality and the empowerment of women in the shipping industry, was given during a Deputy Ministry event on the occasion of the International Day for Women in Shipping.

The 19 May event was held in Limassol, for the third consecutive year, with International Day for Women in Shipping, established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), honoured worldwide every year on 18 May. This was also the second time the 'Gender Equality Award in Cyprus Shipping' was handed out.

Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hadjimanolis welcomed the attendees, expressing her joy for their presence and underlining the importance of the day, which aims to recognise the role and contribution of women in the maritime sector.

This year's theme, 'An Ocean of Opportunities for Women,' highlights the numerous opportunities that the shipping sector offers to women. The Deputy Minister emphasised that, although shipping has traditionally been a male-dominated sector, significant progress is now being observed with an increasing presence of women in various positions, from masters and engineers to directors and officials.

Hadjimanolis made a special mention of the Commissioner for Gender Equality, Josie Christodoulou, thanking her for her cooperation and long-term support. In her opening remarks, the Commissioner for Gender Equality, underlined the importance of the synergy of government agencies as well as the cooperation between the public and private sectors to achieve an inclusive maritime environment, where women can stand out and contribute without hindrance.

In closing, the Deputy Minister of Shipping reiterated the commitment of the Government of Nikos Christodoulides to continue efforts for a fair, equal and inclusive maritime community in Cyprus.
