Cyprus workers had 38-hour working week in 2024, 36-hour week in EU

The total length of the working week in Cyprus in 2024 remained stable above the average working week in the EU, at 38 hours of work per week for workers in the country, compared to 37.8 in 2014 and 38.4 in 2023, according to Eurostat.
In the EU, the actual weekly hours of work for both full-time and part-time workers aged 20 - 64 in their main job averaged 36 hours in 2024, down from 37 hours in 2014, and relatively stable compared to 2023 (36.1).
Among EU countries, the longest working weeks in 2024 were recorded in Greece (39.8 hours), Bulgaria (39.0), Poland (38.9) and Romania (38.8).
By contrast, the Netherlands had the shortest working week (32.1 hours), followed by Denmark, Germany and Austria (each 33.9).
The economic activities recording the longest working week in the EU, in 2024, were agriculture, forestry and fishing (41.2 actual working hours), mining and quarrying (38.8) and construction (38.7), whilst the shortest working weeks were recorded in activities of households as employers (26.7), education (31.9) and arts, entertainment and recreation (32.9).
In Cyprus, the workers that worked the most hours per week in 2024 were also in agriculture, forestry and fishing (44.8), followed activities of households as employers (43.9) and accommodation and food services (42.6).
The shortest working weeks in Cyprus were found in education (32.6), activities of extraterritorial (international and regional) organisations and bodies (34.9) and administrative and support service activities (35.3).
