Agriculture Minister discusses cooperation prospects in Doha

Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panayiotou, discussed the prospects of cooperation on several issues of mutual interest with the Minister of Interior Affairs and Municipalities of Qatar, Abdullah bin Hammad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah.

The bilateral meeting took place in Doha on Tuesday, 22 April, in the context of the presence of Panayiotou at the Earthna Summit 2025.

The Ministry of Agriculture said in a press release on 22 April, that, during the meeting in the presence of the Permanent Secretary of Agriculture, Andreas Gregoriou, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Qatar, Andreas Nicolaides, the scope and prospects for cooperation and exchange of know-how on issues of food security, management of strategic reserves, waste management and water resources were discussed, as well as addressing challenges such as climate change and desertification.

It was agreed to continue cooperation to address common challenges since both countries are faced with a particularly hot and arid climate, the press release added. The Minister of Agriculture extended an invitation to the Qatari Minister to visit Cyprus.

It was also decided to renew and update the Memorandum of Cooperation in the Water Sector (desalination, treatment and reuse of urban wastewater) signed between the two countries in 2014 and to conclude a Memorandum on Agriculture issues, the press release concluded.
