Cyprus and India strengthen commercial ties in Mumbai (pics)

High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus in India Evagoras Vryonides recently hosted three events in India, supported by Honorary Consul of the Republic of Cyprus in Mumbai, Viraj Kulkarni.

A 11-member Cypriot delegation, and embassy officials attended and engaged with hundreds of invitees at the events.

Viraj Kulkarni also provided insights on forthcoming initiatives including for travel, delegations, and collaboration with His Excellency Manish Manish, India’s High Commissioner in Cyprus.

As noted in a LinkedIn post by the Consulate of Republic of Cyprus in Mumbai, Maharashtra, the events enjoyed a diverse representation of attendees from over 25 sectors. This, the post noted, “ensured a rich mix of expertise and perspectives.” Among other sectors, the attendees came from the Technology; Funds; Capital market; SME; Legal; Manufacturing; Tax; Entertainment; Cultural; Jewellery; Real Estate; Government; and Data and Security sectors.

The post also pointed out that, during the events, senior representatives provided valuable insights on behalf of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC); Cyprus Stock Exchange; CIFA Cyprus; Invest Cyprus - CIPA; TechIsland; Tax and Advisory; Cyprus Tourism Organisation.

An event at the NSE Auditorium, BKC saw representatives and participants given the opportunity to interact while also learning about Indian Cultural Diversity as presented by Aswari Bapat. Ashish Chauhan also offered his time and hospitality.

A new chapter in diplomatic relations between the two countries, meanwhile, opened with the inauguration of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Cyprus in Mumbai.

A visit to the Bombay Chamber of Commerce fostered connections among business leaders, especially start-ups and SMEs.

The concluding event, at St. Regis Hotel, saw distinguished guests hearing significant announcements by the High Commissioner highlighting the strengthening of ties between Cyprus and India, especially Maharashtra. The Guest of Honour, Manisha Patankar Mhaiskar, Head of Protocol, Government of Maharashtra, also gave an eloquent address.

As well as the inauguration of the Honorary Consulate of Republic of Cyprus, Mumbai, the visit also included the signing of an MoU between Cyprus Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry on business collaboration and bilateral trade.

Another MoU between IMC Chamber Of Commerce and Industry (IMC) and Cyprus Chamber of Commerce aiming to integrate the Cyprus and India economic landscape was also signed.

Meanwhile, the Cyprus Stock Exchange and NSE IX entered a strategic partnership to develop capital markets and facilitate investment opportunities.

“The visit, a resounding success, fosters relationships and discussions across multiple sectors, promises future partnerships and advancements, and underscores commitment to strengthening economic and diplomatic ties,” the Consulate’s post concludes.
