Olive oil and potatoes see biggest annual price increase in August

The price of olive oil and potatoes recorded the highest annual increase in August, according to data from the Consumer Price Index, processed by the Cyprus Consumer Association.

More specifically, the price of olive oil increased by 62% in August 2024 compared to August 2023, while the price of potatoes increased by 29% in the same period.

According to the data, ticket prices for passenger buses and coaches also increased by 26% and fresh vegetables recorded an increase of 19%.

The biggest decrease in August 2024 compared to the same month of 2023 was recorded in the price of sugar, by 27.6%, while, according to the data, prices for international flights are also down by 13% compared to last year.

Compared to July 2024, in August 2024 the biggest price increase was for fresh vegetables, by 25%, for vegetables by 18% and for potatoes by 16%. For the same period, the largest decreases were recorded for fruits by 6% and frozen seafood by 4%.
