Julie Fisher: Great Sea Ιnterconnector “an important opportunity for Cyprus”

The United States Ambassador to Cyprus, Julie Fisher, described the electrical interconnection between Greece and Cyprus as an important opportunity for Cyprus, following a meeting with President Nikos Christodoulides and the Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs of the United States, Celeste Wallander in Nicosia.

The Ambassador was asked by reporters whether the issue of the Great Sea Interconnector was discussed.

"I think we've made our views clear on the Great Sea Ιnterconnector and the importance of ending Cyprus' isolation in terms of its electricity supply, and that we see this as an important opportunity for Cyprus", the Ambassador said.

Meanwhile, representatives of all the stakeholders in the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI) are due to meet under President Christodoulides on the afternoon of 10 September to discuss the next steps to be taken in the much-debated project.

The aim of the meeting, taking place at the Presidential Palace, is to have all parties present at the same time to provide answers to the Government's clarifying questions and to avoid any ambiguity about the project. However, final decisions on the part of the Government are not expected to be made at the end of the meeting.
