Cyprus to organise a commandaria event in France in October

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panayiotou, has announced that a special wine event to promote Cyprus traditional sweet wine, commandaria, will be organised in Dijon, France, in October.

Panayiotou made the announcement during her participation in a Ministerial Workshop on sustainability strategies in the vine and wine sector in Italy.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry, the Minister said during her intervention at the Ministerial Workshop, that the event will be held in cooperation with the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (O.I.V.) and the French authorities.

Noting the coincidence of three historic moments, the 100th anniversary of the O.I.V., its relocation from Paris to new historic headquarters in Dijon and the 800th anniversary of commandaria, the Minister announced that a wine event will be organized next October to promote the top Cypriot sweet wine.

"I am pleased to announce that Cyprus in collaboration with the O.I.V. and the French authorities are planning a special wine event in the framework of the 45th World Vine and Wine Congress next October in Dijon, France, in order to promote and recognise the role of commandaria in the world's wine heritage and its historical, cultural, human, social and environmental aspects,"she said.
