Harmonised inflation accelerates slightly to 2.1% in January

The Harnomised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) accelerated slightly to 2.1% year on year in January 2024, compared with December's annual reading of 1.9%, CySTAT has announced.

The HICP in January amounted to 112.67 units from 114.09 the month before recording a monthly drop of 1.2%.

Compared with January 2023, the largest positive change was noted in Restaurants and Hotels with 5.8%, whereas the largest negative change was noted in Transport with 1.3%.

Compared to December 2023, the largest change was recorded in the category of Clothing and Footwear with a drop of 13.7%.

In terms of economic categories, the largest change when compared to the index of January 2023 was recorded in Services with 4%, CySTAT added.
