President: Bioethics Committee role to be strengthened

President Nikos Christodoulides said stressed the need to strengthen the role of the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee to the benefit of citizens, while receiving the Committee's Report for the period 18 July 2019 to 31 December 2022 at the Presidential Palace.

Handing over the Report, the National Bioethics Committee Chairman Constantinos Phellas said that at a time of such rapid technological and scientific development, the Committee is called upon to play a very important role in Cyprus' scientific and research landscape.

He added that the Commission continues its successful course through the publication of important scientific reports, the organisation of conferences and seminars on issues arising from the rapid development of science and technology, and on issues related to the psychosocial profile of modern society, while also thanking the government for its support to Bioethics.

Receiving the Report, the President referred to the important role of the Committee: "During today's meeting, in addition to the delivery of the very important Report, we will see how we as the Executive can strengthen your role, taking into account international data and developments, as well as the ever-changing environment, but also how your work is further strengthened, always to the benefit of citizens. This is what always determines the decisions we take,” he noted.
