The Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) called for a balanced and realistic strategy in adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) during its participation in the International Labour Organization (ILO) technical committee on AI in the manufacturing sector, held in Geneva.
According to an OEB announcement, this approach should safeguard business competitiveness and sustainable growth while upgrading workers' skills and ensuring their smooth adaptation to new technological realities.
The OEB highlighted its opportunity to convey the positions of Cypriot businesses in the international dialogue on the future of work in the AI era. It noted that its involvement in high-level international tripartite expert committees underscores its recognition not only at the European level but globally.
Representing the OEB was Business Development Department Officer Markos Kallis. The committee examined how AI utilization impacts productivity, employment, skills, working conditions, and the smooth transition of the manufacturing industry.
Discussions focused on practical issues vital for businesses and the labor market.
The final text includes guidance on, among other things, developing coherent AI and industry policies, boosting productivity and innovation, skills development and lifelong learning promotion, support for SMEs, strengthening social dialogue, upgrading digital infrastructure, improving access to funding, protecting personal data, and promoting inclusivity.
