Cyprus, Greece, Jordan strengthen ties at trilateral summit in Amman

President Nikos Christodoulides joined the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and King Abdullah II of Jordan on Wednesday for a trilateral summit in Amman, underscoring unity in the face of geopolitical challenges as Cyprus holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Hosted at Al Husseiniya Palace, the meeting highlighted shared commitments to regional peace, cooperation, and practical solutions for stability.

“A timely engagement among three like-minded countries at a moment of significant geopolitical challenges,” Christodoulides said in a post on social media.

“Our discussion acquires particular significance as it takes place while Cyprus holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, further underscoring the importance of our joint efforts to promote regional peace and cooperation.”

The summit renewed pledges to deepen collaboration, with a focus on economic ties, energy security, and conflict resolution in the Eastern Mediterranean and beyond.

Christodoulides added that “this trilateral summit serves as a renewed pledge to deepen our collaboration and to implement actionable solutions, benefiting our peoples and contributing to a more stable and prosperous future for our region.”

He expressed his full solidarity with Jordan, which, he noted, faced unjustifiable attacks in recent weeks.

''As we gather in the wake of the recent geopolitical developments and shifting dynamics on the global stage it is imperative that we reaffirm our shared commitment to fostering dialogue, mitigation tensions, and building a framework for regional peace'', Cyprus President said.

He also said that the trilateral cooperation and its deepening is essential for addressing shared challenges from migration, climate change and regional stability and for advancing opportunities like economic cooperation and energy transition.

In his introductory remarks, King of Jordan Abdullah said that the trilateral framework has provided a valuable platform for consultation, coordination, and expanding of the cooperation across a range of key sectors.

He pointed out the importance of deepening economic ties through increased trade and investment, adding that they are keen to build on the agreements signed over in past summits, particularly those enhancing cooperation in water, energy, education, and tourism.

He added that there is also significant potential to build on strategic location to position the three countries as important links between regions.

''Our trilateral cooperation serves as an important mechanism for dialogue and joint action rooted in international law and respect for the sovereignty of all states. It is imperative for any agreement on the current conflict with Iran to address all causes of tensions and guarantee an end to hostilities and the security of the region,'' King of Jordan said.

He also noted that they all affirm their full support for the Lebanese government's efforts to preserve Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

''Amid all these regional tensions, Jordan stands firm in rejecting Israeli measures aimed at exploiting the situation to create new facts on the ground in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza. And we reiterate that Gaza must not be forgotten. Adequate humanitarian assistance must be allowed to reach all parts of Gaza without any delay or hindrance,'' he noted.

Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, said in his remarks that this meeting is taking place at a critical juncture, not just for the Middle East, but for the wider Gulf region, adding that this unfolding crisis is posing serious challenges, not just for regional peace and security, but it also has broader, profound repercussions that extend well beyond our neighborhoods and is certainly impacting all our economies.

''And I think, in this context, this trilateral meeting is sending a very clear and timely message. It's a message of friendship. It's a message of cooperation. It's a message of unwavering commitment to international law and peaceful coexistence,'' the Greek Premier said.
