Cyprus’ first Scientific Diving training programme launches

Cyprus’ first Scientific Diving training programme was launched this week, organised by the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute (SMMI) and Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI).
Funded by SMMI, CMMI and the Honor Frost Foundation (HFF), training is designed to introduce scientists to the intricacies of scientific diving, encompassing both archaeological and marine biological facets.
On the first day, the 12 participants from CMMI, University of Cyprus, the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, and scholars of HFF from Cyprus, Egypt and Lebanon, were briefed on critical aspects of scientific diving. These included the physiology of diving, oxygen administration, basic diving first aid, and precise rescue protocols. The training will continue throughout the week.
